Beach Trip and Restaurant Reviews

Dear Summer,

My grandparents own a little beach house in Ocean City, New Jersey and every year during the week of the 4th of July we go on vacation with my family. It's one of the best weeks of the year because I love the beach and the boardwalk! Since we go every year, I have been to many restaurants and places on the Boardwalk. So, I have compiled a list of different places that I have tried at Ocean City New Jersey and their ratings.

  1. Bungalow Bowls

This place is just so cute and right on the Boardwalk across from the music pier, there is also another location on Asbury Avenue too. I got the Santeria bowl when I first tried it out and it was absolutely amazing. The bowl was so flavorful, the wait was short, and the customer service was awesome. Since it was so good, I just had to go back and try something else. The second round I got the Here Comes The Sun bowl and the experience was just as great as the first. My mom, aunt, and my cousins love this place so I would definitely recommend you check it out!

  1. Cathy’s 14th street Bakery

Cathy’s 14th street Bakery is one of my family’s favorite donut shops to go to on the island and is one of a kind. I got a warm and delicious boston cream donut that was right out of the frier. My mom got their amazing buttercream filled donut that is to die for! Both my mom and I don't like regular buttercream donuts but this one definitely changed our minds.

  1. Ocean City Coffee Co.

If you are looking for a nearby Starbucks in Ocean City, look no further! Not only are Ocean City Coffee Co.’s prices cheaper than Starbucks, their small, regular, and large sizes are bigger than Starbuck's sizes! I ordered a small Iced Coffee for $1.97 and I was thoroughly satisfied. My Nannie and my mom absolutely love this coffee shop ever since we found it!

  1. Ward’s Pastry

Ward’s Pastry is the perfect place for those looking for a great kid friendly pastry shop. My Dad and his grandparents went to Ward’s Pastry when he was younger, as it is over 80 years old and still going on the island. Their fried cinnamon rolls are amazing and their crumb cake is the best kind I have ever tasted! This leaves me asking, were you really in OCNJ if you didn't visit Ward’s Pastry?

  1. Urban Crepes

Urban Crepes is located on the Boardwalk and you could miss it if you do not look hard enough! Last year, I got one of their fruit crepes and it was so good, I just had to get another this year. This year I got a classic crepe with cinnamon sugar and butter and it was still so yummy. The one issue is that I could not find a website with their menu and some of their crepes are overpriced, especially for the portion size.

  1. Bennie’s Breads

Bennie’s Breads is yet another amazing historic place that was born on the island in 1957. My brothers absolutely love this place for their big portion sizes and savory breads! On our beach trip, I got a blueberry bagel with cream cheese and my dad got a breakfast sandwich that we both really loved. I would highly recommend you visit Bennie’s Breads for great customer service and amazing food.

  1. Voltacos

There are so many Italian owned places to go to in OCNJ and this is definitely the restaurant to visit. Since 1954, Voltacos has served quality, authentic Italian food. I got a 14inch mushroom and spinach pizza which I thought would be way smaller than it was- haha! The pizza that I ordered reminded me so much of the pizza that I tasted in Italy, with a crunchy crust on the outside and a soft thin crust on the bottom. It literally transported me back to Italy!

  1. Blue Cactus

Much like Urban Crepes, Blue Cactus is good but has small portion sizes and expensive food. I ordered one grilled chicken taco with Salsa Fresca, lettuce, cheese, and I added sour cream for .25 cents. My taco was very good and the Salsa Fresca was definitely my favorite part, I just wish it was bigger or a little less expensive. I loved the aesthetic of the restaurant and the menu, it's very inviting and makes you want to try their food.

  1. Kohr Bros

The original Khor Bros ice cream started in 1919 and people have loved it ever since! With 30 Kohr Bros locations, I think that the ice cream speaks for itself. I got a small cone with vanilla and chocolate twist and smothered in rainbow jimmies, it was amazing!

  1. El Guacamole

El Guacamole recently opened up in OCNJ and currently doesn't have a website. My Dad ordered a burrito, my mom and I shared some nachos, and I got a quesadilla. We all loved our food so much and would definitely order from them again. The portion sizes were perfect and our food was quality, with homemade chips and all!

Rating: 10/10 (unfortunately I did not take any pictures, click the link if you want to check them out though!)

I hope that you enjoy your visit and love OCNJ as much as I do!
