Back to School Challenge!!! Can I do it??!!
Since my school starts on August 18th, I decided to do a little daily journal to get on the right schedule. My goal time to be in bed is 10:00pm and my goal time to wake up is 6:00am. I’m planning to get into this schedule to be prepared for school and to become more productive, hopefully it works!
Night 1: I am already late for the 10pm bedtime, so I'll have to make this quick. I have to actually wake up tomorrow morning at 6am because I have babysitting on Monday morning. I think that this will help me wake up since I have to be there on time. I’ve changed my night routine to help my morning routine by sleeping with my curtains open that way the sun and heat wake me up. My friend Anike (who is definitely a morning person) taught me this hack since it helps her in the mornings. She is an amazing yogi and I love her youtube videos, click here to view them! I eventually want to wake up at 5 am every day after this challenge because for some school days I have to wake up that early for worship team practice. So I'm hoping that I can be consistent and productive for this experiment to work. See you tomorrow morning!
Morning 1: I woke up and the 1 year old girl who I was going to babysit is sick today so plot twist--I don't have to babysit! I woke up at 5:45 am (overachieving!), and the sun wasn’t up yet. It's nice to wake up along with the sun in the morning because sun rises are a great way to start the day. It feels nice to wake up early, but I gained a headache this morning since it took me a while to actually fall asleep. Going to sleep earlier felt nice and having a routine before bed helped me to unwind. I did my dance stretches before I went to bed which really helped to calm my body and mind.
Night 2: Today was so productive, I was able to get a lot done and I feel really good about it! I had an amazing day and I got to see some friends that I have missed for a while. I did some yoga with Anike’s youtube channel this morning which felt so nice. I think tomorrow morning I will go for a walk to have a good refreshing way to start the day. Having my curtains opened in the morning and drinking a bunch of water before I went to bed really helped me to get up and get going, so I will definitely keep that in my nightly routine.
Morning 2: I woke up at 7:30 am with the goal of waking up at 6:00 am. Gah! The sun wasn't very bright this morning so that didn't help me at all to wake up. I also went to bed at 10:30pm (not by choice) because my friends were texting me about events that would happen today! It's difficult trying to go to bed at a certain time when you have your friends staying up later than you would like to. I still feel pretty proud of myself by getting up earlier than I normally do. I didn't get to do all of the stuff in the morning that I originally wanted to, but that's when I just say, “plot twist!” and move on. I feel a big difference when I wake up early and get a lot of things done, like I've accomplished something which feels amazing. If only it was summer all the time!
Night 3: I have a confession to make, it is 10:30 pm right now. This was much harder than I thought it would be. I think that I will change my “go to bed” alarm to 9:30 pm that way I can wind down earlier and have more time to write this letter. I have to go to dance tomorrow morning so hopefully that will help me to get up earlier since I can't be late. Not such a good day for me with this challenge, so hopefully tomorrow will be better.
Morning 3: I woke up to my alarm for dance class, which was so fun! I love being back in the studio, of course wearing masks though. I felt so energized and strong while I was dancing because of my rest, it was amazing! I also was super productive the rest of the day.
Night 4: Some nights are just rough nights--this was one of them. I was really stressed and worried for what would happen this year for school. I can often get caught up in worrying about what's going to happen and live in fear. I shouldn’t though because its dumb as it doesn’t solve anything. See you tomorrow!
Morning 4: I woke up around 6:30 am this morning. It's hard on days that I don't have something to go to because I tend to not actually get out of bed when I should. Today was unproductive, I mostly just watched a bunch of youtube today and decided to do a self care day. I got to go thrifting with my friends which was so fun, and my mom made these amazing double chocolate chip muffins which were so good!
Night 5: I changed my alarm so I get ready for bed earlier which is working better. My “get ready for bed” alarm goes off at 9:30pm so I can be in bed at 10:00pm. Tomorrow I have a senior photoshoot and I'm so excited! It's gonna be so fun!
Morning 5: This morning I woke up at 6:00 am and ate some amazing pancakes! All I have to do today is get ready for the photoshoot and post on my instagram. I am very excited for the photoshoot but I'm also super nervous! I have to curl my hair which will take a really long time, but I'm hoping that it'll stay curled for most of the time.
Night 6: The photoshoot fulfilled all of my dreams! I felt like an actual model, lol! It seriously was so much fun and I can't wait to see the rest of the pictures! We also got some Starbucks after to celebrate, I tried the s'mores frappuccino and it was so good! My hair stayed in curls too! I took a nice long shower once I got home and went to bed at 10:30pm.
Morning 6: I woke up at 9am today because it is Saturday, and I have an exception for Saturdays. I don't really have many things to do today besides get ready for school and go for a nice long walk. I hurt my hip a while ago from not stretching before going on a walk, so I'm hoping that it won't bother me while on my walk.
Night 7: I went on my walk which was so refreshing, I haven't gone on one in a while. I stretched before and after my walk, and my hip didn't bother me as much, which is amazing since I will be dancing more soon. I did some ballet barre too, because I was bored and I thought that it would be productive to do while I watched some youtube videos. I went to bed at 10:00pm, the 9:30pm alarm is working really well. I also have set another one at 9:00pm which helps me wind down and get ready for bed.
Morning 7: It's the last day! Crazy! I hope that I am prepared enough for school! I had church today so I actually woke up at 6:00 am, then laid in my bed for a while and got up at 7:00am. I'm not the best at waking up, but I'm still working on it. I think tomorrow I will start waking up at 5 am so I can be more productive in the morning and be ready to drive to school. I’ll probably go to bed at 9:30pm so I am fully rested.
Overall, I'm pretty proud of myself for waking up earlier and going to bed earlier. I think that it really helped me get ready for school, and this journaling kept me accountable for going to bed and waking up at the right times. I highly recommend setting 2 alarms in the morning and 2 alarms at night while maintaining a routine for waking up and going to bed. My challenge it worked so well and made productivity thrive! Have a good start to your school year!
